Stayed

I had heard of Ronald McDonald House before, but I never imagined my family would need it one day. If we hadn’t been able to stay at Ronald McDonald House, it would have been extremely difficult for our family. Traveling for our child’s medical care is already very stressful and worrying about where we would stay or how we would afford it would have added so much more pressure during an already painful time. Being able to stay there helped keep our family close to the hospital and gave us some comfort and stability while our child was going through such a difficult journey.

When I first learned my child would need medical care far away from home, I felt completely overwhelmed and heartbroken. I was sad and distraught, and my mind was racing with fear and uncertainty. I never would have expected my perfect baby to be facing something like a brain tumor. At the same time, finding it felt like a blessing in disguise. If it
hadn’t been discovered when it was, we might never have known until it was too late. As terrifying as that moment was, I’m grateful we were able to find answers and get the care my child needed.

One of my favourite memories was the small moments that made it feel like home. I really enjoyed waking up in the morning, having cookies and a good cup of coffee. I also loved the home-cooked supper meals. Those little things meant so much because during such a hard time, it felt like someone was still looking out for me. I often felt very alone while at the hospital but coming back to Ronald McDonald House made it feel warm and comforting, almost like coming home.

Having a place to stay meant my family had a place that felt like home, during the hardest period of my life.
