Qualifications:

- Able to deal with a variety of people and situations in a sensitive manner without imposing views or passing judgments
- Understand and practice confidentiality
- Be dependable, arriving on time as scheduled
- Ability to work independently and be self-directed
- Able to perform light housekeeping and light lifting
- Keep a neat and clean appearance
- Able to pass a background check
- Provide two personal reference letters
Responsibilities:
- Act as an agent of exceptional hospitality
- Adhere to all Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan Protocols, Procedures & Policies
- Check in at the Volunteer Gathering Place at the beginning of your shift to check for important updates and information
- Always wear your nametag for every shift
- Become familiar with Better Impact volunteer database, and use for cancelations or filling shifts
- Family, Guest and Visitor Support:
- Greet guests and visitors at the front door and make them feel welcome
- Answer the door as per security protocol
- Follow visitor sign in procedures
- Accept donations that are delivered to the House (ie: monetary, Wish List items, quilts, etc.)
- Write welcome messages on the guest room chalk boards for new families, under direction of Family Service Associate
- Show families to their rooms upon arrival
- Provide tours to families, guests and visitors when required
- Accompany families to the Quilt Room and Fun Forest upon check out
- Provide general assistance, service and support activities to all guests
- Administrative Support:
- Answer the phone and direct calls accordingly
- Record donations accurately
- Accept and sign for deliveries
- Register Volunteer/Guest parking
- Office administrative work and special projects as required
- Facility Support:
- Assist in maintaining organized public and storage spaces (ie: quilt room, multi-purpose room, storage areas, etc.
- Assist in keeping the House secure by observation and compliance with safety protocol
- Do ‘walk-about’ of the House taking note of things that need attention
- Light housekeeping which may include but not limited to: recycling newspapers/empty garbage cans/empty or fill dishwasher/wipe down counters and sinks/replenish coffee and baking supplies and keep coffee station clean/disinfect surfaces/tidy all common areas
- Ensure play areas are organized, safe, toys are sanitized and replenished as needed duties to include but not limited to:
- Sort toys and return them to their “home”
- Rotate toys from one area of the House to another to provide a “fresh” play area
- Make sure all living spaces have toys/games/activities
- Make sure games/puzzles have all of their pieces
- Remove broken toys to be fixed or discarded and replaced
- Ensure batteries in the toys are functioning
- Make sure all play sets have what they need for children to engage (ie: the Barbie House has Barbies and Barbie has clothes on)
- Organize the Fun Forest and Teen Room – stocking toys in “age-appropriate” areas, identifying any “surplus” of types of toys
- Other duties as required
Training & Support:
- General orientation and training will be provided
- Role specific training will be provided
- Continuing training and learning opportunities will be offered to all volunteers
Time Commitment:
- 1 shift per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year
- Or a bi-weekly shift when applicable
- Shift times vary from 2 – 4 hours depending on opportunity
