Necessary Skills:
- The willingness to get your hands dirty
- Physically capable – some of the work can be physically demanding
- Dependable – must commit to a regular schedule
- Independent – we will train and resource you, but most work will happen independent of staff
- Skilled in work safe work practices
- Organizational skills
- Valid Driver’s license an asset
- Gardening practices and/or House maintenance skills will be an asset
- A friendly and enthusiastic demeanor, as you act as an ambassador of Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan in the community
Responsibilities:
- Be willing to complete Yard maintenance and repair tasks as directed by the Facility Manager
- Tasks would include but not limited to:
- Maintain or repair yard machinery (ie: lawnmower, leaf blower, leaf)
- Maintain grass, moving yard furniture to cut grass
- Communicating issues with Facility Manager and problem solve
- Organize sheds
- Assist gardening team in completing some tasks (working directly with them or on your own)
- Various repairs around property
- Adhere to all Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan Protocols, Procedures & Policies
- Check in at the Volunteer Gathering Place at the beginning of your shift to check for important updates and information
- Always wear your nametag for every shift
- Become familiar with Better Impact volunteer database, and use for cancelations or filling shifts
Training and Support:
- General orientation and training will be provided
- Role specific training will be provided
- Continuing training and learning opportunities will be offered to all volunteers
Time Commitment:
- 1 shift per week for a commitment of 8 months to a year
- Approximately 2-4 hours
Parking:
We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:
- For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergencies. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
- For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.
