4 Nights
Stayed

Growing up, we all had heard about the Ronald McDonald House Charities but really had no idea what all they encompassed until we set foot in one of these homes. Our journey began in March 2016 when our son Finley was born with congenital heart defects. At two weeks old he had heart surgery in Edmonton, and it was due to that that we set foot in a Ronald McDonald House for the first time.

We spent about 17 nights at the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton until Finley had recovered well enough from his surgery and was able to go home. Being born with CHD means lifelong heart checkups. There is a team of pediatric cardiologists in Saskatchewan who keep an eye on Finn’s heart. Sometimes these checkups occur in Saskatoon and being from Weyburn makes for a long day therefore we have now stayed 5 nights at the Ronald McDonald House Saskatoon on 5 separate trips. We are so grateful that we have one of these homes in Saskatchewan! And that it is so close to our Children’s Hospital.

Entering the house is truly like coming home. The volunteers and staff are so friendly and welcoming. Every need is taken care of from a comfortable room for our family to stay in, to a breakfast to take on the drive home. When you have a child who is sick, the last thing you want to be thinking about is what’s for supper. How can I keep my other kids entertained and where do I park? The Ronald McDonald House takes care of these concerns so you can focus on your child.

Our kids love staying at the house and look forward to each visit. They used to love the toy rooms and now they really enjoy the teen room. The Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan will always feel like a home to us, and we know it will be there for us and for so many other families in need. No one ever wants to be in a position where you need the Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan, but you will be forever grateful for it if you do!  We look forward to volunteering at the new Ronald McDonald House in Regina once it is completed, to give back to a charity that has given us so much. A home away from home when you need it most!
