When baby Isabel arrived a month early, we were suddenly flown from Lloydminster to Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. After 12 hours of labor, Isabel was admitted to the NICU, leaving my wife and me feeling overwhelmed and alone in a city where we had no family. Thankfully, the NICU Nurse Practitioner and a hospital social worker referred us to the Ronald McDonald House.
It truly became our ‘home away from home’. Being able to connect with other families walking the same path provided immense comfort. From the positive volunteers who cooked healthy meals to the convenient shuttle service, every detail was designed to support us. This house, and the incredible people within it, made a profound difference in our lives during a difficult time
The kindness we encountered there made a lasting impact on our family. I’ll admit, I used to skip the ‘Round Up’ for children’s charity prompt at the checkout, but after experiencing the life-changing support it funds firsthand, I will be rounding up on every order from now on to pay it forward.
