House Decor Volunteer

As a member of the House Décor Team, you play a significant role in creating a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment for all families. Under the direction of the Director of Operations, you will assist by decorating and refreshing common spaces ensuring that families feel cared for, comfortable and have familiar spaces to spend their time in. Qualifications:

  • Ability to greet and support families in a warm and friendly manner
  • Enjoys decorating and has an eye for colour, style, scale, balance, etc. 
  • Good organization skills; Comfortable with decision making and problem solving
  • Open and adaptable to incorporating diverse cultural and seasonal celebrations into décor
  • Understands and practices confidentiality with families and other staff and volunteers
  • Willing to share your time and energy 
  • Dependable – must be able to commit to a regular schedule
  • able to work independently and take initiative

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all family spaces are organized, welcoming, and respectful of diverse traditions
  • Rearrange furniture and décor to ensure family comfort- keeping spaces fresh for repeat and long-term families
  • Redecorate or update decor where needed and in agreement with the Director of Operations
  • Consult with Director of Operations with any changes or purchases
  • Work within budget as set by the Director of Operations 
  • Purchase décor and furniture as needed/approved by Director of Operations 
  • Adhere to all Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan Protocols, Procedures & Policies
  • Check in at the Volunteer Gathering Place at the beginning of your shift to check for important updates and information
  • Always wear your nametag for every shift
  • Become familiar with Better Impact volunteer database, and use for cancelations or filling shifts

Training and Support:

  • General orientation and training will be provided 
  • Role specific training will be provided
  • Continuing training and learning opportunities will be offered to all volunteers

Time Commitment:

  • Typically one 3-hour shift per week, for a commitment of 8 months to one year
  • Or a bi-weekly shift when applicable
  • Shift times vary from 2 – 4 hours depending on opportunity

Parking: 

We recognize that parking is a challenge in our community. We would recommend, if possible, that you walk, bike, bus, or get dropped off. If you must drive, we request the following:

  • For visits to the House 2 hours or less, please park on University Drive west of Clarence Ave.
  • For visits two hours or longer, park in the ONE volunteer parking space in the lot (if open). Alternatively, you can park in a family parking space in the lot if there is one available. If you are parking in the lot, you MUST register with the front desk to ensure we are able to contact you while on your volunteer shift in case of needing to move your vehicle for emergencies. Unregistered vehicles may be towed.
